Both PA and PAF are looking good with a clear road map for the future. There are some deficiencies but they are mitigated by the superior C4I. Pakistan is ahead of India in the nuclear and missile arena. That only leaves the PN, which is being worked on. Give it another 5-10 years.

Firstly thanks for the response and it's great to be back here.

I was under the impression that the F-7PGs would be retained? These birds are only 20 odd years old and still capable with the Grifo/AIM-9L combo right?

It makes immense sense to have a low end fighter to cover Iran border, have DACM for F-16s/JF-17s and act as a lead in trainer no? Flight hours on PG also very low cost I imagine

With 325 JF-17s to be made, how many EO/IR targeting systems do we need?

"The chapter of seeking F-16 fighter jets from the US has been closed. We are now going for a third party transfer of F-16s and have an offer from Jordan," Pakistan's Defense Secretary Alam Khattak said at a session of the Senate Committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs on Monday.

Which will be subject to US approval.

Maybe US will need Pakistani favors in the Afghan end game?  That is when the final deal will be made?

With the induction of Rafale in the sub continent, PAF will be facing these birds, although 36 in numbers but they will make an impact acting as a layer of force multiplayer along with the SU-30MKI, what will be PAF's strategy, will JF-17 block3 be upgraded to the point that it  could cope up to the challenges at any given time or shall we possibly see a new platform ( Yes we are economically broke, beggars cant be choosers etc) does any senior member have a say on the matter, in depth analysis will be highly appreciated by H. KHAN sahib or any other senior member regards.

P.S Its extremely quiet on the defense front some talk on the issue will be refreshing.

I think the biggest development recently has been allegations of corruption in the Rafale deal. This means no real procurement for many years. They have to retire 10 squadrons of MiG-21 and MiG-27 in the near future. Fighter ratio with PAF is just going to keep getting better.

Then FC-31 is just going to kill them. It is a nightmare for India.

But likewise 36 rafales, 272 su30s and s400 are big problems for us.

Although it doesn't confirm anything, the PAF might offer some insight into its plans and the issues its facing via IDEAS 2018.

With all JF-17s upgraded to block 3 standards, the only thing to worry about will be the S-400.  We definitely need something like that.  However, if they get S-400 then they probably won't get F-35.  They don't seem to have any other 5th generation option.  That again means problems for them in the long term.

Assalamoalaikum.

Indian media is pissed with a news shared by some PAF guys stating that China and Pakistan signed a deal for 48 wingloong II drones with transfer of technology and perhaps under license production. Just love to see their response.

The news was reported by a Facebook account claiming to belong to the Sherdils demo team, but I'm not sure if it's legit. Their page even links to PAF Falcons instead of (the obvious choice) the official PAF website. We'll need to wait for the PAF, PAC, MoDP, DGMP, etc to officially announce the deal, assuming it's happening.

How are drones going to help against long range SAM systems? Drones are only really useful against IADS systems when they're used as decoys or EW spoofing, such as Raytheon's ADM-160 MALD, and even then high speed drones, not slow moving high altitude drones designed for COIN warfare.

I doubt they help in attacking IADS.  But they would be very useful in Kashmir at LoC.  Talk about Sirji Kal strike.

They do have their mighty MCA, if it ever leaves that drawing board :)
